DBS was honoured to welcome Mr Brett Morgan to Dubbo Ballet Studio on Saturday 25 July. Brett Morgan is the Artistic Director of the National College of Dance which runs alongside the Marie-Walton Mahon Dance Academy in Newcastle NSW. He danced Principal roles for the Australian Ballet Company and was associate Artistic Director for Sydney Dance Company.

All regional dance students were invited to participate in both ballet and contemporary masterclasses run by Mr Morgan. A number of students were also lucky enough to enjoy a private lesson, learning huge amounts in such a small amount of time.

The classes were held in age groups which both opened with a challenging open ballet class that really helped the students with tips and tricks of improving their developing ballet technique. Once finished the groups learnt contemporary pieces from professional companies in which Mr Morgan had worked with during his time as a professional dancer.

Mr Morgan’s energy was infectious throughout the students, who took the challenges fearlessly and whole heartedly. All students involved enjoyed the classes thoroughly and were buzzing once they’d finished.

Brett has a huge passion for bringing opportunities out to regional areas to help promote and develop the dance education across Australia. Brett has requested for all funds raised by the workshop be donated to the regions local eisteddfod committee only promoting regional dance further.

We hope to welcome back Brett in the near future for what we are sure, would be yet another great experience!
